Unhappy Blew my engine, time to implant an EJ20TT?

Put this in the General engine swap thread area but no responses, maybe my fellow legacy friends will help:

I have a 2000 GT with 178,000 miles (i love to drive it). But i recently blew the engine out after a recent rebuild (not going to explain because everyone laughs at me), but basically, here's my dilemna. I can buy the same EJ25 over here from a company for 2 grand. Or! I can buy an EJ20TT on ebaymotors through JDMexchange.com for 1100. So my question is this, if i go the blah route, i'm out 2500 or so for engine + install....but how much am i out if i buy the turbo? I know i should make sure it has intercooler, ECU, wiring harnesses and the like, but how much of a hassle is it to really install? any tips on making it go smoothly or does anyone know where i can get some info on how to do it? I'm thinking it would cost no more than an extra grand for install + extra hardware (mechanic friend would install so i'm only out about 500 there). Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm practically drooling at the possibility of turbo, if it's just not cost effective, i'd like to know. Thanks guys.

Get another EJ25 and just drive. You'll be in the 6-8K range, once all things are said and done, for making any sort of turbo swap. The EJ25 you'll buy is probably a rebuild, or has a warranty, whereas you would spend all the time and money on the EJ20 and have find something wrong, then have to rebuild it.

I've been in a very similar situation, and am glad I went the simpler route.

Was really leaning towards the turbo but for expenses and such coming up, 2k for the EJ25 (plus warranty) seems to be the sound way to go. Thanks for the reply

Better move. the twin turbo 2.0 will not fit the USDM cars quite like it does the JDM ones.

That is why you will always find them for sale for cheap.

easy or simple

you could go the easy way out true take the ej25 and call it good. i am opting for a ej20tt and i am gonn amake it fit! that is right nothin gis imopssible. if you really want it. you could have a car like every one elses or a special one of a kind machine?
just a thought!

I think the only way you are going to be in the 6-8k range is if you do some serious modificatioins to that engine before you put it in it's new home. You're going to be looking at more like 4k for engine + rebuild, and all installation.

he nailed it on the head. You could however fit an EJ20 no problem and it'd still be quicker than your 25

I have heard bad things about the JDM motor company you mention. Maybe look into getting the V6.

What bad things have you heard about JDMexchange.com? Would like to know since i'm quite close to buying my EJ25. That being said...

Does the EJ20 really just drop right in? And if so, how in the world could it possibly be quicker than the 25? I'm a bit of a newbie so I wouldn't have the slightest clue why this would work. But if it does, I might go this route, since 9 times out of 10, when I call a place about engines, they all say no I don't have the 25, but I have plenty of EJ20's (non-turbo). Plus that fact that it's cheaper than my 25, would make it an easy decision. Planting it in is not the issue, I already have an experienced sube mech that will install. Thanks!

Look up JDMexchange on Nasioc. I think they misrepresented some things they sold.
