hotman8, Unless that 96 is a Right hand steering "postal" model you have more problems ahead than mating up the wiring. Much discussion has preceded this swap, and it's generally agreed that the swap would be VERY complicated if not impossible due to the location of the turbos where the USDM steering gear resides. Good luck!

You may want to post on the "other" i-club Legacy forum, as well as ask on the "Factory" and "Non-factory" turbo forums on both boards if anyone has successfully accomplished this swap. From what I gather the twin-turbo machines are very complex beasts. There are a number of tt-owner/members residing in Japan on the other Legacy board as well. Not meaning to offend anyone here.

The EJ20TT swap has been completed sucessfully into a members LHD Legacy already, he did say it took some fabrication for the turbo piping on the left side to clear the steering shaft, which in turn brought it almost in contact with the master cylinder.

let me try to find it.

[edit: Glenn beat me to the other part]

Cool!! I was only trying to discourage ya cuz that kind of work is far beyond most of us, past dreaming that is!!! Please keep us posted on your progress, with pics if at all possible. Do you think you'll run afoul of the California smog-*****?
Far as the harness, as I followed the post AKSubie provided, the ideal would be a full front clip, but depending on where it's cut, maybe one of the guys in Japan could provide some wiring help? Does seem you'd need the ecu/harness etc for certain. Have you tried e-mailing rota wheels wrx for further assistance?

Thumbs up

I'd drive to San Diego for a ride in that baby!!!

What are your suspension and brake plans? Definitely need some consideration with 250+ HP!

Technically yes, it is illegal to put an older engine in a newer car. AK unfortunately basically copied CA smog laws, which basically state the engine has to be newer then the car it's going in to and the resulting configuration must be an approved engine/chassis combo. (i.e. 02 WRX engine into 93 impreza=OK, 94 Legacy Turbo engine into 00 Legacy=not OK) If you've got an "in" then your good to go, theoretically, once your tags are current, there shouldn't be much problems. If you got caught though I don't know what your fines/problems would be.
