What is the big deal??

Seriously... what is the big deal? I own a 1994 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon w/ the turbo package.. and I love it, but what's the big deal? The 2005 would probably be just like my 1994 except newer and won't have 240000 miles on it. And for those who don't believe that my legacy has turbo, the engine vin plate reads EJ22T... that's the turbo option. Well, anyways, I just wanted to see why everyone was so thrilled about the NOT NEW introduction of the turbo legacy. It's already been here.
Although some people may think there has never been a turbo legacy, there are plenty of people who know of the old Turbo Legacy's. This, though, is the first one that has been in the states in nearly 10 years.
There are also plenty of differences between the two engines. First off, the new Turbo Legacy is intercooled and has a bigger block. But on the other hand, the engine on the old Turbo Legacy is closed deck, so get an intercooler and you've probably got more power then the new turbos.
No doubt, both are great cars.

however- no other legacy has had the marketing prowess like the 2005's.
the legacy gt was the 1st subaru ever- to get car of the year award in japan-
considering the competition- that is an awesome feat.
subaru's sights are on the european market- in terms of performance the legacy gt boasts 0-60 times @ 5.8 seconds. the car has lost roughly 100 lbs. since last years model(thanks to aluminum hood and parts) the intake was redesigned(also dual tip exaust) to lose that "boxer rumble"- hopefully attracting more luxury oriented customers. the brakes are tighter and the car feels more nimble than the 04's.
plus the safety standars were raised- full side curtain airbags, automatic airbag kill switch for passenger seat...
so my comment is this- yes they are both similar- but also many differences-
this is the car that will hopefully put us on the map in terms of performance/luxury sedan recognition.

I forgot to add...nKoan, intercooling an older turbo Legacy would not make it as fast as a new Legacy, it may have a closed deck block, but all that means is that the block is strong. Closed deck does not=power.
There are so many things about the Legacy GTs that make them different and faster. They have more displacement, a bigger turbo, aftermarket support, etc. It's hard to even compare the two, IMO.
Gdogg pretty much covered all the bases though. The new Legacy is sort of a turning point for Subaru. They're starting to lose the granola/hippy/economy car image, so it's an exciting change. It's hard not to make a big deal out of such a beautiful car.

That's nice for the older car. But until you have driven a 05GT and felt the brakes, you may not know what your talking about.
I can say your 1994 is no where near the car the 05GT is. For all around fun and performace I'll take the 05 over your 94 any day.
In case you think I'm out in left field here, of the 4 vehicals I own one is a 1992 Honda Civic Si with a Apexi turbo kit pushing well over the last dyno numbers of 216WHP. This civic will walk on an STI once it gets traction in 3rd gear. That is until the tires break loss again at the top end of 3rd.

Just thought I might add that I went to the local subaru dealership. TRI-STATE SUBARU.. and test drove an 05 Subaru Legacy Wagon... it was nice. Much different then my 94. Accidently took my fiancee with me, and now she wants an 05.

one last thing to add-
the car plainly put-
just looks sexay!!!
both in and out
not to lessen the nostalgia of the previous ones...
but new is always nice- and old is always blah...
thats why the new car industry is a billion dollar one-
thats my last input and i'm stickin to it.

The car I drove was a 2005 Subaru Legacy Wagon, automatic w/ standard abilities. Completely stock model.. which was still fancy to me with heates seats, mirrors and lord knows what else he was telling me about. i went to the vernon dealership, talked with a guy named john tyler. this guy was truely amazing at the knowledge and help he gave me. As for whether or not my 94 is a GT model, i finally located my digital camera and will be taking pictures of the GT AWD sign on the back hatch, along with other pictures.
Fiancee loves her Subaru, but fell in love with the '05. Tried to get approved today, but being both 19 years old, we were turned down. BIG BUMMER! the dealership is going to try to get us approved for the '00 model or a forester.
