Might be buying a '97 Legacy L (my first subaru)...
I have a 2004 Corolla Le right now (easy to drive in San Francisco, GREAT mileage), my past DDs include a '93 4Runner, '96 Camry, '96 2wd Tacoma, and a '85 Nissan Maxima Wagon. I would like to trade-in my Corolla while I still get a ton of money for it, the seats are really uncomfortable and I don't want to be making payments on something I don't love.
I'm moving to colorado in August so I would like to get something with AWD/4WD. Originally I was looking at 99/00 Tacomas, but those are gonna cost me. I've seen a lot of nice Subaru Outback/Legacys with under 100k miles for 7-9k from a reputable dealership (It's basically out of the question for me to buy private party, I need to be able to finance it).
I'm looking at a '97 Legacy L w/67k miles for $7,777 sticker. Its auto , but gets about 23/30 mpg and is AWD. I was searching and reading up some and it seemed like there were a few complaints about the 2.2 engine
It's pretty much either this, or drop 14k on a truck. The truck has about two years left of it's warranty too.

The 2.2 is a great engine, very reliable, not a whole lot of hp though. Any auto will really suck any life out of it though. If you can find one with a manual tranny, you'll be much happier. Are you looking for a wagon or sedan?
