And thanks to all the Subie fans for the site traffic. The new STi is going to be amazing. I still might buy a Legacy GT in the near future though.
There has never been a Legacy STi, a common misconception. The closest was the Legacy S401 which Subaru does not sell with the current body style.
The safest bet would be a Spec-B performance package offering for 05 in Japan and 06 in the US. Spec-B could contain better suspension bits, bigger wheels and brakes, and a six-speed. But anything is a guess.

2005 Subaru Legacy STi
Recently, Subaru unveiled the STi version of the popular WRX sedan, boasting even more power, more grip and more fun. Apparently, the WRX won't be the only STi model for long. The next Subarus to wear the STi performance badge will be the Legacy sedans and wagons, which will be redesigned within two years. Built to compete against cars such as the Audi A4 and BMW M3, the high-performance Legacy is rumored to produce upward of 350 hp from a twin-turbocharged version of the company's 4-cylinder opposed engine. And because it's a Subaru, that power will be channeled through all four wheels. The new Legacy will have sleeker sheetmetal for all models. Versions without the STi performance equipment might be offered with a new diesel co-developed with Isuzu.

the news you present here was not verified at all. unless i am mistaken-and i hope i am- there is no definite decision as of yet. japan will be the first to have one... and they have never made a production sti- if they do make a legacy sti here it will have that badging for marketing purposes only...
like mach5 said, where did you get your information?

as much as i like PM magazine- they were also the same magazine that published the wrx sti as having a flat six(i'll post the article as soon as i can find it)
i hope subaru follows suit after the forester sti... which they already have...i think its only a matter of time since the legacy made car of the year in japan.

on the Popular Mechanics article it states "2005" STi-
i sell subarus... no sti will hit our shores for at least 2 years(unless soa pulls a rabbit out)... of which depends on the success of the u.s. launch of the 05 legacy platform. i just wish we had the B4. . . i mean that would be good enough for me...

Still, I really like the new Legacy GT. One step at a time, I guess.
