fitting a rear LSD

Hi all,
I have a 1996 BG5 Legacy GT-B twin turbo manual wagon and I want to fit a rear LSD to my diff and wondered if an LSD from a GC8 Impreza would fit. I was told the GT-B shares much of its running gear with the STi of the same era. Going off that information I assume I will need a R180 LSD centre. Has anyone done this before? Anyone know for certain whether the GT-Bs had R160 or R180 rear diffs?
thanks heaps for any help on this.
Cheers
Matt.

Boy, this is a tough one. Since we never got our hands on a GT-B. It is hard to figure out what LSD it has. However I can tell you, hehe.

Yes, your BG5 uses a R180 rear diff. However, there are few variations of it. And the one you need for you car comes in following cars:

- SF5 and SF9 Foresters
- 93-98 Impreza Wagons (GF8)
- 92-96 Impreza WRX (GC8A, GC8B, GC8C models)
- STi Version I and II Type RA
- Impreza GC8D WRX Type RA
- Impreza GC8E WRX Type RA

And thats all.

Hope this helps and good luck with your car. You should post some pics of it.

Thanks for the information Alex! You're a champion! Your information is very useful. This is my first Subie (after owning a string of turbo and N/A RWD cars). Unfortunately the GT-B never made it to Australia (where i am from) and i don't know too much about them so cheers again for your help.
I'm happy to post up some pics of my car (and other cars here in Japan that people are interested in).
The car has a full ZeroSports bodykit, ZeroSports coilovers, Recaro seat, K&N filter and Jasma approved sports muffler. It rides on 17" wheels (soon to be changed for 18s) and currently has a slipping clutch. I have a new Excedy clutch ready to go, just waiting to get a lightened flywheel for it too.
I do have another question for you (or anyone who wishes to help out). Is the gearbox in the 1996 GT-B an STi (or similar strength)? The car is fast but not fast enough and will be getting a bit more power but i don't want to be blowing any gearboxes (a big problem in Australia with the standard WRXs).
Matt.
