Well, BD = 95-99 US sedan
BG = 95-99 US wagon
Those dates are something like late 93-98 for the JDM models

The BG5 is the EJ20TT Touring Wagon, or GT-B. That's a sequentially turbocharged 2 liter motor available in Japan and other non-US countries.

A BD3, I haven't seen, but it's most likely an early (94-95 JDM) Legacy RS sedan, which is the same motor. Wagons are much more popular in Japan, so the sedans are comparatively rare.

Out of curiousity, where did you come up with those specific models?

No idea, but Subaru never had a turbo 1.8 in a modern chassis (the old GL's were, though)

That BD3 sounds like a base, stripped car. I'd be surprised if it was even awd. If it's the EJ18, it's got like 120hp.
It might be easier to get spares for a BD3, but why go through the effort? You're importing a car that shouldn't cost any more than $2k, will need repairs becuase it's old, and will have absolutely ZERO performance.
We have 2.5's inour cars, with 165hp, and those are woefully underpowered becuase the cars weigh a good amount.

Where do you live? Why are you looking at these particular options? (I'm not trying to be antagonistic, I'm just trying to see if we can figure out a better solution for you )

I've never heard of a BD3 either. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but I haven't heard of one in roughly 9 years of Subaru fanaticism.

In the little searching I did on a Subaru bd3, it looks like it's an N/A 1.8L motor in some form of Legacy.

Yeah......

FWIW, one of our local club guys has a 1.8l in a Impreza L. Car is pretty much the lightest impreza made, most likely close to 600 pounds lighter than a legacy. And it's very, very slow.

That motor in a big car is bad news.

It really comes down to why you want this specific car, and why it's necessary to import it.......

Ok. I would stay away from a BD3 for any sort of performance. If you just want it to run around town in, the motor is pretty solid, but it will be very slow.

The BG5, depending on year, should be around 260-270hp with sequential (twin) turbos. If it's been well taken care of, it would probably be a good car, but any TT setup I've seen in any car tends to have reliability issue as it gets older, just because there's that many more mechanical parts, vacuum fittings, extra solenoids, etc.

How are the cars priced? Inexpensive, or do they carry a premium becuase they're JDM.
