Question 97 outback blowing antifreeze

I have a 97 outback with a 2.5 engine it keeps overheating and blowing coolant. I have done a search on the net and found that there is a head gasket problem with these engines. My question is should I replace the head gaskets or look for another motor. thanks for your help

It is definately the Head Gaskets. I would say it depends on your mileage, we replace head gaskets frequently and they usually have over 100-125k miles on them. It also seems the harder they were driven the earlier they go out. For instance my 98 RS went out at 45k, which use to see the track often and just driven hard. But consider if you replace the motor, it too may have head gaskets go out and you don't know the history of it. I say keep what you have if it is working well and has reasonable mileage. And of course don't let it overheat and do more damage.

Hope this helps,
-Adam

Sound advice. You can get a lot more miles out of that engine if the work is done right.
