2.5i Legacy 4 speed
Hey everyone.
I live in central Alberta (Canadian province above Washington and Montana for those who don't know), and I am looking at purchasing a 2005 Legacy 2.5i sedan for my significant other. She is an automatic girl, so it's going to have to have the automatic tranny....
All the reviews I've read about the 2.5i are glowing, with the exeption of the 4-speed auto in the 2.5i. It's said that the gear spacing between 2nd and 3rd is way too big, and that the tranny is slow to downshift and slushy to upshift. On the other hand, the 5-speed auto in the GT's are supposed to kick ***.
I guess what I am getting at is this: Does anyone know, or has anyone heard, if Subaru will get with the times and put the 5 speed auto in all cars next model year? If not, what are they doing to rectify the problems with this "old" tranny ?
Thanks for your time, I look forward to your responses!

Nothing has yet to be announced for the 06 model year, though most are expecting moderate changes. A 5 speed auto isn't out of the question, but I wouldn't say it is expected.
As for the 4 speed auto, I had one in my previous Legacy, and it was okay. It got my car moving. It wasn't super sporty or anything, but it was reliable. The spacing between 2nd and 3rd is pretty big, but I never thought it was a problem for normal driving.
