1991 legacy (help with loose shifter)
I have a 1991 legacy with a very loose shifer.
Anyone know to fix this problem? New shifter bushings?
Know where to get them?
Thanks!

Yes, bushings should definitely help that problem. Unfortunately, I know little about early Legacies, so unless they share shifter parts with early Imprezas, you'll have to dig to find some bushings for it. There may not be any "name brand" bushings like Kartboy, but I guarantee that SuperPro or Energy Suspension or somebody will have them available if you know where to look. People have been rallying those cars way too long not to have urethane everything available somewhere.
There's a spring in there that can fail and pop out, leaving the shifter unable to return to center. It's a few bucks at the dealer, and tricky to install but not impossible.
If it's just sloppy, consider a newer WRX/RS/Legacy linkage from someone who has upgraded to the STi shortshift. You'll need the whole assembly, plus one additional part from the dealer, but all short shifters and bushings will fit it. It's pretty much the only way to improve the shifter feel above OE.

BTW does anyone ahve a link to an install on just the bushings alone?
Thanks

I had a 90 legacy. The normal kartboy, superpro what ever for a impreza will fit. Both the front and back bushings. That most likely isnt the problem. You have to get under the car. You will see what looks like a U joint. There are 4 bushings in there. Replace them that WILL fix the problems.
