Whining sound at 140mph

Whining sound at 140mph

Anyone know what the whistling/whining sound is that is heard at around 140? Is it the tires or some sort of airflow of sorts? Also, I'm talking about the STi. The hoodscoop and wing might make a difference.

It's the side-view mirrors, and happens on all Imprezas.

Well if you mean sustained long enough to hear the noise, I've done it on two different freeways. 280 and 101.

mine does it too around 135. But how can the mirrors make this noise? Sounds more like air is getting into the car or something. And has anyone thats telling us its the windows actually heard the noise on their car, cuz it sounds a lot different to me than just wind going over the mirrors.

i have heard it on my car a couple times and it was around 120mph, the first time i had no clue what it was. then realized that it was the mirrors.

Fold in the mirrors and try it.

When I hit 138mph I also hear this whining sound- my brother said it was coming from the ECU on the passenger side.

Ask him how a circuit board with no moving parts makes a whining noise.

Definately the mirrors... havnt been the driver at that speed but was in a WRX at that speed and it made that whining sound... kinda adds to the experiance with the turbo screaming, and engine at full throttle
