Do NOT disturb the existing factory temperature sender or attempt to tap it electrically. It is not just used by the gauge in the dash, it is also used by the ECU to determine coolant temperature. If you do anything to affect its signal to the ECU the car will run very badly.
You need to install the sender for your new gauge in a different location.
It would also help if you provide more information on the specific gauge you have, and the type of sensor it came with. This will allow more accurate advice to be given. You can also search for threads about this type of install, it's been done and discussed many times before. Look on NASIOC too.
