Titanium shift **** Help!?

I have an 04 WRX witht he 5 speed M/T, I was given a STI titanium shift ****, looks just like the one from subarus parts list. I noticed that the hole for it was really big, and sure enough when i tried it out it was to big to fit onto the stick. Im wondering if there is some type of plastic insert that needs to be used, like an adapter?

thats probably the plastic piece that the shifter boot goes around. there should be a smaller threaded hole in there.

the adaptor is a white piece of plastic which threads into the shift **** and onto the shifter - it comes with the shift ****, but the threads often strip. It's not available as a separate part, unfortunately.

Thanks guys, I wonder then if I can have someone make me something like that or even go some where that will have something that will work. Has anyone else had the same problem?
