Thin doors and Paint?

I've had my 05 RS wagon for three weeks now, and in that time I have have acquired a few door dings. And that usually falls into the “!@#$ happens” category, I’ve noticed that it takes little to nothing to dent and scratch the doors on this car. This is my first new car and I am undoubtedly suffering from Newus-Carus-Paranoius, but it really seems like it takes next to nothing scratch and dent the doors. Of course doors should not be invincible, but it should be able to take a small impact with out scratching to the primer and denting. Is everybody’s Suby this fragile, or am I just being a puss about my new car?

I have an '04 STi and I've noticed the paint is really fragile on the plastic parts. But, overall, I think the paint is fine (I've had better and worse.) But, 3 weeks to get "a few door dings"? That sucks man. I doubt it's your paint, it's your freaking neighbors.

Subaru paint is known to be shi**y and thin. as for door dings, i got 2 within 2 months of having my car. just be more careful, and watch where you park, and who you park next to
Unfortunately Subaru's sheetmetal is thin due to a legacy passed down by the first Subaru 360. The sheetmetal was thin to keep the weight down, and now subaru uses chassis technology for crash protection instead of using heavier gauge sheetmetal.

Most Japanese cars have always had thin gauge sheetmetal. And now many American and European cars are that way too. It's a conspiracy to make you spend more money on repairs and replacements
And like the others have sad, Subaru's paint quality has always been only so-so =\

Bwahahaha!!! The real legacy that we all love in regards to Subaru's is the spring torsion bar suspension off the old 360 Ladybug
BRING BACK THE SPRINGBAR SUSPENSION!!!

Wow, I was kinda impressed with my paint. Sure its not the best, but 6 years later, it is nearly perfect (except a bunch of rock chips on the unprotected hood and front fenders)
the sheet metal is kinda thin though, my back left door is solid dings
speaking of which...
But the quality of virtually EVERYTHING has gone down since then (99)

i have 5 dings. paintless dent removal is a remarkable thing. find someone good. just remember- do not try to fix it - if you do you will add more creases to the door panel. most good dent guys will massage the metal from the inside.
japan cars used crappy steel in the past. as of the nineties they started using galvanized steel just like the american guys. however it is still thin.
dings are a fact of life. just make sure that you aren't the one dingin' . . .

Seeing my Subaru after only a few months was heartbreaking after the quality of paint on my 98 240sx. The paint on that car was incredible - hardly got any dings, looked beautiful, no swirls..gorgeous car. The paint on this car chips from the wind I swear. I guess crappy paint is just the price you pay for a kick *** car and community.
