Shift Knob Question

Shift **** Question
Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to fit the STi 6-speed Titanium shift **** (or any 6M/T shift **** that works with the reverse ring) onto a 5M/T. It wouldn't matter right? It just wouldn't thread all the way I'm guessing.
