Anyone have a link or could describe how to put in a shift **** on a 04 WRX?

Shift **** Adapter

I also read somewhere on here that an i-club member has an adapter to better fit a Momo **** to the stock boot. Any info on this as well?

Are you trying to remove stock **** from the boot?

You have to pull quite a bit but don't pull by the leather... If you feel at the top of the boot, where it meets the shift **** you will feel a hard rubberized ring under the leather. This is the lip that is preventing you from pulling off the ****. (By the way I'm assuming you've unscrewed the **** already) The best way to do it is to grab the top of the boot in one hand (squeezing the rubber ring inside the leather between your fingers a bit) and with the other hand wiggle the shift **** out. Hope this helps, it is a bit stubborn but as long as you are securely holding that piece of the boot nothing will rip.

**** installation

Yes - I am taking the stock boot and **** off to use the stock boot and a momo ****.

I assume that if I pull off the boot as described, the rubber ring will fit into the new **** when using the correct shim?

sagging boot

I did get the new **** on just fine, but there is about 1/2" or so gap between the new **** and the top of the stock boot. Any ideas on how to close the gap?

Instead of putting the rubber cap on as-is, cut off the top so that it's a rubber tube. Then put it as far down the shifter as you can and still get the set-screws to tighten. The leather boot will naturally stay up against the ****. I've had mine on like this for about 18 mos. and it looks great. Use some loctite on the screw threads, too.

install complete

hey - thanks everyone for their info.

my new **** is now finally at home on my shift lever!

flescher came through with the MVT (most valuable tip) of cutting the top of the rubber cup thing off.

Not only does it hug the top of the boot better, but it makes the lever look shorter too.

I have only been a WRX owner and I-Club participant for a week - and everyone has been so eager to help out a newbie like myself.
Thanks to everyone.
