IF your going to go Type RA then that's another story... if tha tis the case then you need to debadge and rebadge with the type RA badging...

I personally don't like it!

Jon

actually they did have a type R in japan it was on the GC models

this is just as bad as people putting STi labels on their car when they don't have an STi. why are humans so obsessed with brand names? why do they feel cool when their non-STi WRX has STi foglamp covers on? even RS people for that matter.

to the author of this post. you do NOT have an "R" Impreza.

to the dumbasses who put STi labels on their non-STi car. you do NOT have an STi.

what if its the body of a wrx but the mind of an sti, or a wrx with sti parts (considering THE sti was made because of the parts and not vice versa) or just flat out a wrx that will leave an sti in a cloud of smoke (either because its fast or it blew up)

we have had this discussion before and it's a touchy subject, especially to sti owners. sti is a tuning division of subaru, kind of like trd for toyota, amg for benz, nismo for nissan, etc. if you have some sti parts in your car, you should be entitled to put sti badge on the car. of course, it's a free country so you can put anything on your car, but you run a risk of looking ridiculous.

isn't a Type R just a civic or an integra with upgraded parts kind of like a WRX STi is just an impreza with upgraded parts? so if a civic has Type R wheels on it, it's allowed to put Type R badges on?

if people have upgraded their WRX to an STi by changing the engine or drivetrain or suspension. then i guess they are allowed to put STi stickers on. but it's the people who have WRX which come with foglamps and they put on STi fog covers like "oooh...my car is more like an STi now b/c i got the same fog covers it has"

people who have FMIC's whould put on fog covers but get rid of the vinyl that says STi. basically unless impreza owners have upgraded to the STi engine, suspension, drivetrain etc. do NOT put STi badges on. do NOT put in STi floormats. don't install STi fog lamp covers.

You know what man? I'm gonna have to bust your ***** here because of your hot shiet, arrogant attitude.
STi stands for Subaru Technica International, which is Subaru's in-house tuning company. It is comparable to AMG for Mercedes Benz, Mugen for Honda, Ralli Art for Mitsubishi, Mazda Speed for Mazda (duh), Mopar for Dodge, and countless other in-house tuners.
Your comparison of STi to Type R is incorrect and misguided (to put it lightly). The Type R is a trim level for Hondas, similiar to the WRX designation of the Impreza (or if you insist on equivalence of trim level, one could say the Spec C). The STi model Impreza as you like to refer to it has a full name: the Subaru Impreza WRX STi Version. "STi Version" denotes that the car is STi's own tuned version of a WRX, simliar to the Honda Mugen Integra Type R or the Mugen Prelude SiR (both Japanese exclusive models). However, STi does not just do in-house tuning, it also manufactures performance parts for Subaru. The correct Honda comparison would be Mugen, NOT Type R. Mugen is an in-house tuner, Mugen also manufactures performance parts. Type R is merely a model designation, just as Spec C is merely a model designation. STi is NOT just a model designation. STi manufactures parts as well as tunes for Subaru. Type R does NOT manufacture parts. Spec C does NOT manufacture parts. Type R IS a model desiganation, similar to Spec C (full name being Impreza WRX STi Version Spec C).
Thus, if you have STi parts, feel free to put on STi decals or logos. Similarly, if you drive a Honda, feel free to put on Mugen decals if you have Mugen parts. But don't put on Type R badges unless you have a real Type R. Don't put them on either if you only have Type R parts -- you need a complete Type R before you slap on Type R, just as you can't slap Spec C onto your STi version unless you're really driving a JDM Impreza WRX STi Version Spec C (which will be correctly badged already from the factory anyway).
This brings us back to Subaru badging. I'd say the equivalent of Type R posing is placing Spec C or Type RA badging on your Impreza. Understand? Good, I had hoped that you would

Why not just keep the "X" instead? (the "R" is really tied to Honda - hence the rice comments)

X is too closely related to Xtreme marking crapola. Why not keep just the W?
