Removing & reinstalling brake light wire

I'm taking my WRX wing off this weekend to see if I like the look. JUST FOR A DAY. While I'm at it, I'm going to go down to a couple of body shops and see what it'll cost to get the wholes spot welded, filled, and painted. I'll have rubber plugs in the holes to protect the lid and trunk from the elements.

My question is, how do I disengage the wing's brake light? I see the cable and the plug along the side, but what I don't see is a way to actually pull it out or put it back in, when I do put the wing back on (again taking off only for a day).

I've tried swapping trunk lids and have posted. No luck what so ever in the 6 months I've had the car. I've even offered to ship my lid over night + cash to folks around the country
