Angry Persistent Dash Rattle is killing me

The black trim at the base of the windshield has been the only rattle I have not been able to fix or put up with. It is the trim that the VIN plate is riveted to. I have taken it to the dealer....not for the rattle, it was in for a tire balance problem....and they SAID they fixed it, which they did temporarily. So when the rattle came back, I went about fixing it my way, I pulled the trim up and added some weatherstripping padding-foam to the piece, and I noticed that the little white clips that attach the trim kinda fit loosely. So, the foam didn't work.....I think I may use a dab of RTV silicone on the clips where they attach to the trim.....Has anyone ever had this rattle drive them crazy too? How did you fix it?

thanks!

update.....3M weatherstrip applied sparingly to clips fixed it (for now).

Now on to bigger and better things.....like beer.
