OBS foglight installation (pre-wrx)
OBS foglight installation (pre-wrx)
I just recieved the foglights  but dont kno how to instal them
Any help would be great
The switch has 6 leads, where do they all go?
Is the car pre-wired for them or will I need to run wires from the cabin to the engine bay?
How do they attach? Do I need to buy some kind of attachment bracket?
I was told they're the same fit as USDM ones, but these are off of a JDM STI, and included the light, the switch, and the light cover things. I got them off ebay for 130, so they seem like a great deal (400 for USDM) but no instructions or anything. Any help would be great
Thanx

...I thought the OBS bumper was only USDM and CDM, any JDM sti (93->) would have a ver. _ bumper, similar to the 99-01 RS bumper style with large round foglights. If the light covers you got are the ones with the oval recessed hole offset to the outside of each cover, the OEM foglights do require special brackets to mount them correctly.
Could you possibly give me a link to the item on Ebay? I can't find it since the auction is over, but you can still access it through your myEbay page... this would help us help you.

... and about the six leads- I'm just guessing, but if they are in three pairs, one pair is the input power and ground (I don't know if the input power should come straight from the battery (constant) or from a fuse-tap on an accessory power source- either way, you'd probably want a relay on the input power lead. The remaining two pairs, i'm guessing, go to the power and ground for each light. You may want to check behind where the covers would go on your bumper to see if there is a harness (w/two wires (pos/neg)) that isn't connected to anything. If there is, someone else may be able to help you locate the other ends of those wires under the dash.
I bought aftermarket foglights about the size of the oval OEM ones for my OBS, and I mounted them so the hole in the cover lines up nicely. I didn't bother to look for the stock harnesses and just ran the wires myself to my non-oem switch. If I had the oem switch and oem lights, I would have looked for the stock harnesses (I really do think they are there)

Yea, the covers seem to fit, I didn't realize the sti's over there had that style either. Anyway, heres the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
I was just re-reading it, he doesn't mention it being STI, but in email, he said it was, so I'm not positive it is sti, but that doesnt really matter.
Thanx

I had aftermarket lights the same size too, but they got to hot, and started to melt the plastic if I had them on while stopped so I decided to get real ones, plus, the real ones r real. Thanx

Are you saying mine are fake? Am I just imagining that I have foglights? Hahah-jk, I know what u mean- I also prefer oem over aftermarket whenever I have the chance. I don't think they're from an STi, and USDM OBS's have the same exact option. Still, good find... I'm dissapointed in myself for never seeing these on my daily Ebay search for parts for my OBS- it's rare you find something on ebay with a direct application for our cars- you have to sift through all of the RS and WRX parts till, one day, you get lucky. It happens often enough though for me to keep on lookin'
yup, I search every day too. I search for "impreza" and sort by time listed so that I miss nothing but don't have to continuosly look at what I've already seen. I was pretty excited bout them, specially when they were only 36 a few hours before they ended. O well.
I figure I'll go to the dealer, ask them what they want to instal it (i'd prefer doin it myself but if they r really cheap, why not). Then probobly geting the bracket. Anything else I should get? Any other advice would be great, Thnx

Ok, so I went to Subaru, they want 150 to install, thats more than I payed
So I went to the parts department and asked for the bracket thing. And they want 50 each. So again I said forget it. I simply made 90 degree things out of semi-thick sheet metal. So now for wiring and adjusting. Right now I simply am using the old wiring (from aftermarket lights, and its relay and switch.
How do you adjust USDM ones?
Any ideas on how to find the wires?
Wheres the relay supposed to be (in the engine compartment fuse box but where)? How much is it pre wired?
And simply any ideas on how to go about figuring it out?
Thanx

foglight brackets and aiming
respectfully, and speaking from personal failures, i don't think brackets made from sheet metal of any gauge will be rigid enough to hold lights steady enough for good focus on road or to let you aim em accurately. you can get 1/8 or 3/16 plate or bar stock to do the job at yr local Ace hdwe for <$5, hacksaw it to size/shape and clamp it at correct angle, and any local body shop will MIG weld it up for <$10. if you include a "gusset" (small triangular section that fits in the "V" of the 90 degree angle and is welded to both pieces), it will be way rigid and maybe better than factory item. try to look at factory item and see what Sub made it out of.
for adjustment of any aux fogs, i just use an old carboard box or Marie Callender pie pan to block off one and then aim other for best vision low and to shoulders of road. swap box and repeat. low tech but it seems to work. just remember the type of light pattern and appln fogs are designed for....a low flat beam that lights off to sides and is low enough to get under fog curtain.
good luck.

I used 1/8 metal. It may not be sheet metal, but I figure its similar. But if I notice Its not working, I'll use your idea.
About aiming, I was more looking for how to physically do it, like what you loosen, and what moves on where, although how they should be aimed is useful too. Thanks
