Mirror replacement how-to?

After months of my wife driving around with only a driver's side mirror (I surgically removed the passenger side with a telephone pole). The problem is that the mirror "remnants" look to be a little tough to remove. So...how can I take off the old "mirror" and put on the new one? Do I need to pull of the inside of the door or something?

You should jut need to pull off the interior sail panel trim, then be able to unbolt/unscrew from there.....
Neither of my Legacys (a 92 and a 97) required anything more than that......

Yup, what Sybir said.

Also, I haven't yet replaced the mirrors on my 02 yet, but I just went and popped off the sail panel trim. Looks like one bolt, and you're good to go. Some electrical stuff comes up from the door, but if you didn't damage that portion of the mirror, then you probably won't need to worry about them anymore then being conscious of the fact that you might need to detatch and reattach them in the process.

It kind of depends. Is the entire mirror gone or is it just the mirror/glass part? I tried replacing just the mirror/glass part on my '93 Legacy and it doesn't seem feasible. The glass is glued to the plastic bits behind it and it doesn't come out without a lot of force. I couldnt' find a way to replace just the mirror/glass part without replacing the entire housing.

Picture this: I'm sliding out of control on a left-hand 90* curve. There's a telephone pole at the end of the curve, on my right. I stare down the pole, then manage to get the car pitched right, and SMACK! Off comes the mirror. All the electrical wires are still there (sans plugs), but the housing is gone. All that's left is what would bolt to the door. But...I popped off the access panel (the little triangle) and started unbolting. But it's on there really good. I don't know what the problem is.

Anybody else? I can't be the only one who can't disconnect the damn thing.... Could someone scan the page from a manual? Pretty please?

You should also post the same question over on Nasioc. There are a lot more Legacy guys over there and they're super helpful.
