Legacy sedan storage area in the trunk...

Don't know about other models of the Legacy sedan, but on the 2003 model there's a storage "tray" between the spare and the rest of the trunk. This "tray" is made from some really cheap material. Doesn't seem too sturdy. Does anyone know if anyone makes any sort of replacement for it that might be a bit stronger and more practical? Thanks.

tray

Hmmm, the one in my 98 GT Wagon is fairly substantial. Wonder if SOA has cut some corners there? You might consider looking at a recycling yard for an earlier model tray. I'm not familiar with the sedan tray, but my 98 as well as my old 91 Wagon tray were well constructed, holding quarts of oil/flares/jumper cables, etc. in a nice solid compartmented tray.

Hmmm.... good point about checking older models in the salvage yards for a tray. When I was originally shopping around for my Legacy I noticed that the tray in the wagon actually is a lot more substantial than the tray in the sedan. If I can't find a replacement, then I'll probably just wind up taking some measurements and building one out of plywood or something. The current one is more of a really cheap particle board.

Mark, I'll see what I can do about some pics. Fact is I may be losing it when I try to fit a full size spare back there. Not sure though!

Full size spare eh? Let us know how that works out. I wouldn't mind putting a full-size spare back there... just didn't know if it would actually fit or not.

Once the weather around here warms up, I'll need to see about moving the contents of the "crate" I keep in the trunk to that "tray" and see if it's worth it to keep the tray there.

Yep, that's the one!!! Update, a full-size spare (16X6.5 with 205/55/16) does fit , but, the tray must go.
