Laws and Tinted Windows...

I've heard so many differing opinions on the laws of tinting. I searched the internet and found the same thing, different opinions. I'm thinking about getting my windows tinted and don't want to give cops a reason to pull me over. So, I guess the question is what is legal? *I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA*

its illegal to tint front windows. and since you live in fremont, they'll find any reason to give you a ticket. but, i have my fronts tinted 35%. its dark, but not too dark. the rear should be fine tinted im not too sure if there is a limit for the rears in CA

When I got my dad's Accord tinted for him, the tint guy said that in California the only legal tint on the front is the clear UV screen that comes stock on most cars. He stated that the 35% limit is false, but many believe it to be true because cops sometimes don't notice the tint if it is 35% or lighter (as reference, a friend of mine got ticketed for 35% on the front windows of his E350). The rear is 5%.

In Cali its illegal to tint the windsheild and front side windows. The legal limit is around 87% to 93%. this is pretty much what comes on stock cars. As far as the rest of the windows go, you can go as dark as you want, wich is going to be 5%, unless you want to black them out. you can get away w/ 35% in the front side windows in most cities, but any darker will get you some bad attention.

^^^ That is "true," the tint guy told me the same thing. But he said no cop is going to pull you over just for that, and if im getting pulled over, just roll down the windows completely. No worries.
