I couldn't take it anymore!
My car looked great , to me anyway , but those damn rotors with the factory rust option was truly to vomit for!
With a very detailed tutorial from the other board and a whole day to myself I decided to do something about it. Yes, it was a PITA not to mention the fact that after struggling with one rear rotor, I decided to take off the parking brake! No , duh?
To many , my color choice may seem a bit on the rice dish side of things , but that's ok, I have no problems admiting it's a Japanese car! The point is you must take the time to get rid of that ugly rust , and @ 4 bucks a can for Duplicolor Ceramic heat paint the project comes in just a few dollars under a Brembo big brake kit.

I saw it on the NASIOC modifications board but it seems tobe down , it keeps coming up not available.
In a nut shell, I removed the calipers, popped off the rotors, reinstalled the calipers (w/o rotors) and cleaned them up as best i could with alcohol. the rotors were wire brushed and given the same alcohol cleaning.I masked thecalipers using large garden bags and lots of tape leaving only what I wanted painted exposed, the rotors were not masked and all eight pieces got 4 light coats of Duplicolor high temp. The instructions say you can cure this paint in the oven or under high heat conditions of normal use , I opted (my wife told me) for #2.Re- installed everything after it dried and went for a slow spin around the block, the paint on the wear areas was worn off as promised and i continued to drive around to make sure I hadn't gummed up the padsa and heat everything up to cure the paint...No braking problems occured , the paint on the wear areas turned to blue dust and the pads are fine.
I just searched NASIOC and found some posts similar , many expressed concern for pad damage or improper heat transfer but I just believe some people put a bit much thought into these things and loose sight of the obvious!
End result: it's inexpensive , looks much better and has not changed my braking whatsoever.
Take you time masking the calipers (i put them back on to make that job easier) and that big garbage bag gets opened up with a knife to protect you car from over spary.
If I find the link Ill post it

I'm about to paint my calipers as well. But how do you take them off?
Also what color do you think would look best on a sonic yellow rex? I am looking at the g2 kit... They have yellow, silver, black, red, white, purple, green. The yellow that they have doesn't look anything like my car's yellow... I was thinking red for the fact that you could definatlly see it, but two people have told me go black...
Thanks,
-Nigel

So, my rotors just started to rust and I'm no where near being able to afford a big brake kit. So, I remember I saw a post a long time ago about a user that had painted their rotors in addition to their calipers. Duh, guess who?
Cohlineman, we have much to discuss this weekend.
