Defective Paint?

Car Info: blk 2002 wrx
has anybody investigated aftermarket clear coat, or whatever that stuff is that other dealers sell that is like an extra protective layer of clearcoat?
I'm tired of m y crappy wrx paint swirling and scratching so easily.
