Talking Crashed

Finally happened.
Coming home from work, looking forward to a nice long ride on my new mountain bike.
Heading south on HWY 49 down to the American River(s), with a quick stop at the Ranger station for some maps.

Put Left blinker on.
Applied brakes, as there was an oncoming car.
Slowed to about 20-30mph.
Noticed BIG F350 rapidly approaching from behind, oblivious of my intentions.

Fear.
Do I stay here & let a monster truck roll over me, or quickly dive right, down an unknown grass covered dirt road.

Exit, Stage right it was...better to take my chances with the unknown road.
Hit a small patch of packed gravel, no skidding...good.
Road curves to the left slightly...good.
SHYTE.
Grass, wet grass. The kind of grass that accelerates objects that have the misfortune of being on it.
Uh, oh. a heavy gate attached to two 8" diameter steel pipes.
"Bet those are concrete filled", I giggle to myself, as the ABS groans away.
Better use the bushes & oak trees to absorb some of this energy I'm about to transfer to some object.

BUMP! CRASH! SCRATCH!

That wasn't so bad, airbag didn't pop, and I can start the engine.
Engage Reverse...no move. The Right front tire is off the ground, and the open diffs are doing their thing: slipping.

Luckily, the Ranger is still in his office & helps me off the three foot berm the car is stuck on. Car is still driveable, tracks straight, and although looks horrid in the pictures, has no major damage.

Great way to start a weekend.

Its far better than being run over by an F-350. Looks like you didn't do too badly, just a new front bumper.

Damn, Lizard, you got a "HIT ME" bumpersticker anywhere on your car?
The best wreck I've ever been in was a few years ago in my Saab 900 Turbo.
Long story short, a semi drunk idiot decided to side swipe me at 80mph...while my CHP friend was riding shotgun!
We had three cruisers and an ambulance on scene before the dust settled.
