Is their a way to stop the spreading? I got hit by a rock in a construction zone today and since then its spread another 3in, is there a way to stop it?

 

You can take it to a glass shop and see if they can repair it, but if it's already spread it may be too late. Usually if there is a small crack, star or bullseye it can be fixed so it is less visible and won't spread, but once it becomes a crack and spreads the windshield will probably have to be replaced.

 

Mine cracked two weeks ago. The crack was originally 2 inches in length and got larger as the week progressed, ended up 18 inches long. Got it fixed today. I didn't see what hit the sucker. The bottom of the windshield has always been wavy-distorted to look through. I think it just cracked by itself. $250.00 deductable+$50.00 coupon found in the newspaper=$200.00 out-of-pocket to me.

I cummute every day,180 miles my car is a 03 wrx with 60,000 miles I know window cracks. You can stop the spreading by bringing it to a glass shop and they will drill a small hole at the end of the crack to prevent further spreading. Its about a 80% chance it will work. I use to stop mine but it seemed every time I did I would just get another one the next week. I'll get a new windshield when I stop cummuting or get pulled over, yep thats right i'm a rebel.
