Hey guys, I just got my 2011 swp STi yesterday and I totally love my car My question is did I make the wrong decision by not getting a clear coat on the whole car? From what I heard all the newer cars do have a clear coat already coming out from the manufacturing build. Is this true? My car is not going to be garaged and I'm worried the paint will oxidize due to the elements of the weather. Subaru paint is not the greatest and that's why I was considering a clear coat.

Did you guys get clear coat from the dealership at the time of your purchase? TIA

 

I got a 2010 2.5i in DGM. My car sits outside everyday because I don't have a garage. And I live in French Camp where it is dusty as hell because of all the fields and **** around here. I wash my car and within 30 minutes there is a layer of dust. I didn't get any extra clear on it and it seems to be working out pretty good. The only thing is the headlights begin to oxidize on the top pretty bad but some "plasticx or plast x" (not sure what its called) works like a dream and makes them look brand new again. All modern vehicles are clear-coated at the factory, Subaru is no exception. Anything in the way of chemically applied "paint protection" that the dealer tries to sell you is an unneeded add-on that puts money in their pocket.
However, if you want additional protection against road debris etc. for vulnerable areas like the front bumper/hood/lights you can have Clear Bra applied by an installer in your area. It's well worth it especially if you do a lot of highway driving. If it's actually this type of protection the dealer is offering then yes you should consider it, but do some price-shopping first as the dealer may charge more than an independent installer.

 

I would recommend a clear bra. I don't have one but I know of many people that do and I want to get one. They work and protect against alot of ****.

 

I have a clearbra and love it, covers the whole front end of my car! Had a custom kit done, covers whole hood and hood scoop, both fenders, front bumper, side skirts rear wheel lip, behind rear wheels. Cost 1,800 dollars for a custom kit. If you just want the simple third of the hood and fenders and front bumper covered it's around 500 to 600 dollars. I know few places who do it, can get yah deal if interested!

Do those places do the prep. work of cleaning/polishing the paint surface before applying the clearbra?
