Changing color of factory boost gauge?
Idiot mfr puts a white bulb in the factory boost gauge when all the other dash lights are green! Has anyone taken theirs apart and put a little green 'condom' on the bulb? If so, what size is it and how hard was it to take the gauge apart?
TIA,
Bill

i know it can be done although i haven't done it myself. i have seen where people have put different colored 'condoms' on there and also one guy just took the condom off totally and replaced the bulb with a brighter bulb.

When you say 'swapped out my factory boost gauge'...
Do you mean the one in the pod on top of the steering column or the one in the 3-pak pod on top of the dash? If the steering column, did you reuse the pod or put the new gauge elsewhere?
How did you connect the new gauge? Can you use any of the plumbing or wires for the factory one?
Truth is, a different colored bulb isn't going to change the fact that I can't see the damned needle at night. If it's pretty simple (and not too expensive) to swap out the whole gauge, that might make more sense.
I'd like to get more details. Can you email me at oxy8384@earthlink.net?
Thanks,
Bill

Thanks a lot!
I really like the 'twin pod' look. If you know, what's involved in installing an EGT gauge? Are the engine connections easy? I would assume the EGT sensor is already there, somewhere for the ECU to monitor, right? What's needed to connect up the gauge? Physical installation I can probably figure out...
Oh, and can you buy just the pod without having to buy another POS turbo gauge from Subaru?
Thanks again,
Bill

the guy that owns that setup, was able to get just the pod from a dealer somewhere. almost all dealers w/n sell just the pod though...i think he said he paid a hundred dollar bill for it.
a lot of egt gauges come with everything needed to install it. i'm not for sure how you would tap into the factory egt for a gauge, but most people tap into the manifold itself as the uppipe or downpipe for that matter are too far away to get a good reading.

only pic i could find. very deceiving though. the gauges are a lot brighter than this pic shows. the gauge is A LOT easier to read than the stock one. hope this helps!
on a side note, i'm in the marketfor a digi cam, as soon as i pick one up, i will post some night pics

I have the stock boost gauge and have already changed out my HVOC and gauge cluster with red bulb condoms... how would you change the stock boost gauge? I'm not sure how I see how it would come out??
Thanks,
