This sounds pretty mundane, but if you have experience with fabric car covers, I'd like to hear from you.
I keep my cars in the garage at home. I have covered parking at work right now, but in March my job is moving to a new and larger facility. Unfortunately, the new location has outdoor, unshaded parking.
Living in Norcal, I want to keep my shiny midnight black '03 WRX Sedan from frying in the UV all summer long. Wouldn't be a bad idea to keep it dry, too.
SO...I'm considering investing in a good car cover. Either that or find a new job or buy a beater just for the commute to work.
Are car covers just too much fuss at work?
Guess I'll have to keep the car really clean too, to keep dirty fabric from wearing down the paint.
Are there some really good covers out there that hold up well and are quick and easy to use? What covers should I avoid?

If it rains, snows or there is a fire and ash gets on the car cover you now have to put that somewhere in your which is going to get the interior dirty\wet. I dont see the point of doing it every day while at work, I would suggest finding a local parking garage and paying the fee.

Thnks for the imput so far... I'm leaning in favor of going for the cover. The covers made of Ultraguard look pretty good to me right now. It's fairly lightweight, breatheable and great for UV protection. Only problem is it will cost almost as much as a wheel from my 17" upgrade plans.
Noah looks like good stuff, but I like the sunlight protection from some of the other materials. I have Sunbrella for the canvas work on my boat. It's incredible stuff, comes in a lot of colors and is very strong, but it's too heavy and bulky for what I want in a car cover.
I like the idea of having some scratch and ding protection from a cover, too.
Has anyone used one of the Ultraguard or Weathershield covers?

Think it would be a PITA as well but thats just me. and i do agree that it wouldnt protect your car from other people. I dont know how good it would be in your area with the weather. I know down here by vacaville its pretty windy most of the time so i would be afraid of it rubbing against the pain and wrecking it, but if you want to take the chance go for it.

I don't have any experience with UV and you living in Ca. It should be a concern. As I stated before the Noah is the best car cover I've used and I think it has UV protection. I would check with Griot's Garage. As far as scratches from putting the cover on, if you wipe down the car before with detail speed clean, it will be protected. I agree with you, there are a thousand reasons not to use one, but it does protect the car, cuts down on washings and car stays immaculate.

Be careful using a cover on a newly waxed vehicle. I've had a devil of a time on windy days.
Covers work great for keeping the paint from becoming oxidized from sunlight and protects against minor door dings in mall parking lots.
I had one for my old car but grew too lazy to fight with the cover. I also used a cable and padlock that ran through grommets to secure the cover on windy days and for mild theft deterrence.
