Bubbles in Paint

hey - just checking to see if anyone else has had this happen. I've got a 2004 blue wrx wagon and this summer it developed small bubbles/blisters in the paint on the hood scoop. They eventually pop and can merge to make a larger area with no paint. I realize my car is out of warranty but was pretty pissed when Subaru wouldn't do anything about what seems to be a paint defect (the local dealer took photos and wrote a description). In 25+ years of car ownership I've never had paint do this and all my cars/trucks have been outside and held 8-12 years.

So is this just a fluke or have others had this too?

(this was also posted in a competing forum so apologies if you are a member of both and are reading it a second time)

Yep. San remo red and I have the same issue. Looks to me like the clear coat bubbled. Whatever it is, it looks horrible and I'm gonna get the scoop repainted.

what year is yours? my bubbles are the paint too.. blisters from below and eventually flakes off.. they are a little smaller than diameter of a AAA battery.

I've not heard of that on Subaru's. That used to be a big problem with GM back in the 90's. It's either comtamination during the paint process or a bad batch of primer, basecoat or clear. If it's under the clear and not through the basecoat then sounds like contamination during the painting process. All it takes is some bozo with some sort of silicon based product to get in the same area and BAM! later on the problem shows up. Or maybe something splashed on it during the process. Either way it needs to be redone. Ideally, down to the base material and then new primer and so on.
