since no ones using this section, I figured id throw out a NEWBY question, (since I am one.) whats the easyest way to get to your spark plugs to change them? or are they easy to get to, iv never really looked that intense into it, all i realized was that there on the sides, and that may be hard. also what are the best spark plugs for a lowly modded wrx?

 

on "normal" engines its a 15 minute job....but since Subaru is full of ******* engineers, its a 2 hour job. WinglessWonder has an EXCELLENT write-up on how to do the change.

The first time you do it, it *might* take you two hours. Once you're familiar with the process, it will take you less than an hour.

its not that hard at all. i would reccomend a few tools to make it much easier.
first you need a long 1/3 ratchet with a flex head, and a 1 1/2 inch locking extension(so that it locks onto the 5/8 spark plug socket) 12 mm socket to remove the packs.
it only took me 45 mins my first time. do your self a favor and dont bother with flex sockets on this job

 

Working on your subaru can be the ****s if you dont have the right information. Or the right tools, and of course the right attitude. You can buy tech manuals on cd-rom, on ebay for cheap. then, you'll have pictures and expert advice to guide you. It also helps to have a friend around to show you the way.....

an hour, all you have to remember isd to take off the washing fluid bottle and it is so simple, you want hard go get a dodge stealth then tell me about ******* engineers, or the 3000gt mitsu, that is a fun one, but my girlfriend can do the stealth pretty quickly.

 

yeah my last car was a 3000gt. very fun. front plugs were easy. however rear 3 was a pain in the @$$ if i remember correctly on a 3000gt you have to remove the upper plenum, air intake box/pipe, throttle body, and buy new gaskets for the plenum,......... back was a pain with the 2 bolts. lol took me about 3 hours.

 

i took me about 2 hrs to do that job on my 2002 wrx wagon with a friend's help. we had to take off the battery, washer fluid jug and air box. we found it was much easier to have one person leaning over the fender to position the wrench handle, and thread the plug, and hold everything in place, and then a person underneath to turn the handle

also, i found it kind of hard to get a torque wrench in there, so i didn't bother. i personally didn't use anti-seize, since i figure the packs cover things up and i didn't want to risk any of the anti-seize getting on the plug tip.

i think if you take your time it shouldn't be a problem.

 

use an extended reach spark plug socket then you don't need extensions, and don't need to remove the battery.

It also helps to undo bottom motormount nut and lift engine an inch or two...
