Very true, Cobb AP is a very flexible tool, however, at $400-500 a tune you better damn know well what you want the tuner to get out of your set up.

Also, I do not know Virginia very well, but you should check out Mach V Motorsports (http://www.fastwrx.com/) in Sterling, Virginia if you are anywhere near there. I heard good things about them.

Outside of swapping in a beefier gearbox such as STi ($$), RA ($$$), or PPG ($$$$), there is nothing really you can do when it comes to the actual transmission itself. My best advice is first of all learn how to drive the stock 5 speed smoothly without slamming gears and putting undue stress and wear/tear on its transmission internals...Oh, and never ever EVER launch your car on a stock gearbox, unless you have $6k+ burning through your pocket.

Some things to consider, at some point you will probably have to upgrade your clutch to be able to put down whatever extra power you put into the engine. Other good choices are short throw shifter, counter weighted shift *****, front/rear shifter and differential bushings to improve shifting feel and control.

I currently have roughly 400 bhp (310 whp on GST's dyno) on a stock '06 WRX gearbox with an upgraded clutch kit without a problem because I have been driving stick all my life and I do not slam or abuse my transmission. Good luck!
