How to: change/clean stock air filter?

I've been noticing some significant gas mileage loss in my 03 wrx. Is there a way of cleaning/changing my intake filter?

If it's the stock panel filter, it is not possible to clean it (other than removing leaves and other loose debris) so when it gets dirty it has to be replaced.

a little vacuuming might not hurt. with all the dust/smoke blowing around the filters are getting dirty on a faster cycle than normal.

what I did was use the air blower at work. Sprayed it down with break cleaner. then useing the air blower to dry it. Works great. My filter looks brand new

You can always go to Kragen to get an air filter. $10 or something.
