The owner has the actual title for the car and has been paid off. Do i still need the lien release letter? If i do need the letter should i buy the car from the owner after i get the letter? Damn first time buying a vehicle thAt was out of state and already getting a headache!
Without the letter, you may not be able to transfer the title.
YOU don't know when the vehicle was registered here locally. IF the vehicle was registered when there was a lien on it, YOU MUST have the letter before the title can be transfered. Period.
Don't take someone's word on this. Get the letter, or you may be stuck with nothing more than a parts car.

yes. Get the letter with the car. It must be notorized and signed by a pepresentative of the bank that financed the vehicle.

imo, this is going to be too much of a hassle. I say just pass on this car and keep looking. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you will have to get a safety inspection before you get the car registered. Because it's not registered yet, that's gonna be more hassle for you.

ok i guess i wont be getting that car. the owner doesnt want to sell the car unless he finds one and its real PITA waiting for him to find a car. good luck to him selling his car especially with the amount of flakers on craigslist!

1. Go to the DMV with the out of state title, out of state registration and shipping documents. BTW you have 30 days to get the car registered after its been shipped. Your shipping docs act like a temporary registration.
2.The DMV will give you a Hawaii title, but not a registration until you get a safety check. Best thing to do is get the car saftey checked before you go to the DMV to get it titled in Hawaii.
3.If you didnt get the car safety checked before you went to the DMV you simply go a safety check place. They check the car and will fail you for no registration, then you take the failed safety check slip to the DMV, They register that car in Hawaii. You then go back to the safety check place, show them the Hawaii registration and they give you the passing safety check form and the sticker.
The best thing to do is go to the DMV with the current owner. Get the car titled in Hawaii in your name, then give the guy cash for his car. If he says hes to busy to do this tell him no deal and walk away.

OK, I have dealt with this first hand. Its actually a pretty simple process as long as the owner has all the paperwotk and its all up to date.

Do the safety thIng first. Saves time unless they need your name on title. Non residency forum saves you like 250$. So try to get one from PSD by KFC near the corner of Bougainville and valkenburg st.

1 inch drop failed me lol. Lady told me to go to recon i was like wtf ! Doesnt even looked dropped. So that being said , can i drive the car around even if i just got the car yesterday? Te owner told me not to drive it around with his out of state plates. This is my only transportation, kinda wish i didnt buy this car because of the hassle. Btw the only paper works i got of this car is shipping receipt, ownership title, out of state registration . I have insurance on this car but its not comming in the mail till next week!

well getting a legit safety and recon is kinda a luck of the draw. Keep the failed safety papers, schedules a recon appointment (see the recon stickie on the top of our main page for hawaii), see if recon passes you. If they dont well you just wasted money. After that happens either get those stock springs your looking for or get a "Safety inspection" with emphasis on the " "
