Seems like the stock ecu is not pulling enough retard under boost
It could be the difference of only 1* more retard between death and a shizzle load of "useable" power.
I read that most engines make most power having 10*-14* total timing under boost using 91-92 oct.
(Race car engineering magazine)
Or it could be that the intercooler is not doing its job.
Solution: a more effcient intercooler.
Or the ecu has a too aggressive timing curve and is only a degree or 2 off.
Re-program ecu to pull 1*-2* more retard at 9psi on up under boost.
Petrol Oct. to low for amout of boost.
Raise oct rating or lower boost.
Cooling issues? might be a problem but a small one at that.
injectors too small?
Larger injectors and higher output fuel pump.
Fuel pressure regulator.<<not a real fix but works in some cases.
Or could be the timing belt stretching and the cam just twisting a bit under heavy loads causing catostrophic melt down.
Not a likely thing to happen considering the short heads on these boxer engines. But they do happen on some engines.
