first, ... Schuman isn't a part of SOA. So who cares if SOA won't cover it.
BUT, Schuman IS also cracking down on modifictaions. Unfortunately, some people have f_cked up their WRX more than once or twice!!(we're talking obvious owner fault here too) F_cking ignorant bastards. And they have already started voiding people's warranty.

What happened to the aftermarket part having to obviously be directly the cause of the engine malfunctioning?
If this is true, it's pretty nice of I-rev to post this.

It's wise not to rely on the Magnusson-Moss act regarding automotive modifications.
It's VERY easy for a dealership to refuse to perform a repair that they deem "unwarrantable".
I used to deny things that were even remotely questionable at Lexus if the guy wanted to be a jerk about it - and push some things through for "cool" people or friends. It sucks, but it's really the call of the service personnel/dealership unless you want to take it to the "next level" which means retaining an attorney and deciding whether you can win the war of $ attrition vs. the dealership/distributor.
It's WHO you know, and not WHAT you know - especially on this island.

P.S. Just as a point of reference regarding warrantable repairs - it's not the dealership that pays for them - they turn in a claim to the distributor who turns in a claim to the manufacturer to get paid.
If service writer A at dealership B does a repair under "warranty" he must submit a claim to distributor C. Distributor C sends that claim to Manufacturer D in Japan. If D denies the claim, it gets kicked back to C. C in turn sends it back to B as "unpaid". Mr. A gets a swift kick in the bottom line/spiff pay because he basically "gave away" a repair that dealership B had to "eat" (they didn't get reimbursed for work already performed).
So the dealership is really only covering it's own *** when it takes a pretty hard line on warrantable repairs.
It's lucky there are cool people that know what they're doing everywhere.

Another reason to go with an STi so it already has kickass performance and you dont HAVE to mod the hell outta it to have big power. Still, who couldnt mod an STi to see what it could do with some add-ons. Ugh.
Gotta wait til I get out there to put a deposit down, probably wont get an STi for awhile I would assume... bummer...

Dave,
That's a sound idea. It's like buying a Z06. What's there left to do? (I know, I know... LOTS - but why?
)
11-second potential with WARRANTY. My only mods would be window tint and DRAG RADIALS.

If I cant get an STi I will probably look elsewhere, I want a fast car that I dont have to mod and kill warranty. =) Maybe 350Z or something. Ugh. =)

Course with the kid on the way wife would kill me over a 2-door so that REALLY limits things. =) Which is why the STi is perfect.
