where would you move to?
Help! I'm dying to move to Oahu and need help picking an area to live in!
A little history: last Sept. my girlfriend and I went to the Big Island and Oahu and totally fell in love with Hawaii. Loved it so much, we went back to Oahu in March. And finally, this past August, we got married in Kauai, honeymooned on Maui, and finished off in Oahu. I love the beaches, the weather, the people, and the food. I love the food! They say you can get anything in NYC, but nobody here even knows what poi is. Poi, laulau, lomi salmon, li hing moi flavored anything, and shaved ice...everything!(there are other things too, but nothing i could really say on the board)
Of all the islands, Oahu is by far my favorite. I wouldn't mind living in Lanikai or by Diamond Head, but until i get a few million I'll have to look elsewhere. I was thinking about Mililani or Hawaii Kai areas. My cap is around $400k for a house with a garage and any size backyard. Anyone have any suggestions?
thanks
justin

Bao Ling is correct, Mililani is nice and so is Waipio Gentry but the problem is the daily commute. If you work at town, I would so hate to live there. Plus, places like Kailua and Kaneohe which is about the same distance from town is much nicer and has better weather than the leeward side. I would so love to retire there when I ever do
. Another place you might probably consider is the surrounding Hawaii Kai area such as Niu Valley. Also consider Kaimuki. Kaimuki is by far one of the best areas on this island in my opinion, mainly because of how quiet and close to everything it is.

Wow, you guys are awesome - hence, why i'm dying to move out there. If i needed advice on where to move in NYC, I'd get responces like, "do a search noob" or "try a search engine"...so tired of NYC...
Mister 2, thanks for the link! I was previously checking sites like choirealty.com, which only sells million dollar houses.
i will definitely check out the suggested areas, especially Kaimuki, Kailua and Kaneohe because in most cases we'll be working in or near town. My wife wants to tranfer to Queens Hospital(she's a nurse), and i'm more likely to find a graphic design job around town.
and just to share:
here we are with a friend at Leong's Cafe, at the end of King St.

and here we are on our wedding day on Aniini Beach, Kauai(sorry for the bad pic)
