What grit sand paper is good.....

What grit sand paper is good.....

to roughen up a painted surface before painting it

Car Info: 04 sti now pulling hard but super greasy!!
220 to 300 to 600 wet imo thats what i do every time unless i have to strip then i start with 60 and work my way up

220 is a bit low. If you were to only sand 220 and then paint over it, you'd probably be able to see the sand scratches. 600 is fine enough.

yeah i usually only use 220 if i need to block down and remove some material then work my way up....... im a prober but also a first class body and fender guy i just need to work on my painting skills but from what ive been taught is that painting skill can only come with time and that i dont have enough of to become first class........ just backyard banger status lol!!

I knew it lol. I put the 400- in there for safe measure as I didn't remember from when I worked at a body shop. And that was only 2 1/2 years ago lol. Damn I'm getting old.

i use scotch bright pads. these usually scratch it up enough when u scrub really hard. i used it for my fog light covers, and my rims. neither have chip in around 4000 miles...

Yup we use those too.....the red and the grey ones. But use the regular paper for DA's.

Normally the pads are used for plastics right? Like bumper covers and stuff. Thats what we used it on.
