Wanna help a noob with a tune?

My stock turbo's blowin' smoke, so it's out with the old and in with the new. I've got a FP 68HTA on it's way along with the supporting mods(still need a sti intercooler) and would love some help so I can drive it till I can get a proper tune. Any takers? I was half-way thinking of just buying a cobb ap and running the 16g map till I get it tuned. Any opinions? Thanks.

You sure the smoke isn't piston rings? I would do a compression/leakdown test before doing turbo.

do you know what oil does to a compression ring? and the difference between a dry and wet compression test? being that this is a boosted engine how would you go about sucking in the oil via the piston ring? if you had a bad piston ring...youd get bad blow by in the crank case...not drawing oil into the combustion engine...

I believe my turbo is blowing smoke as well. I am a noob, so if I could get any FAQ, then maybe I can begin to figure out my problem??

Aloha!

The car only has 46000 miles on it but I'm pretty sure it's the turbo. I don't know who owned the car before us but they we're hard on her. For either of those two problems to arise at this mileage, kinda says something. I used to own a t3/t4 boosted accord that ate 3 engines. And yes when that happened there was oil all over the engine bay because it was shooting out of the PCV valve. Luckily Honda F22b engines are only $450 a pop. Didn't think about that. I was about to have it tested...thanks though.

That's alright, I'm from nor-cal! Redding, then to Santa Rosa working for America's tire for 6 years. Thanks for the suggestion though.
