TurboXS FMIC

Anyone using TurboXS FMIC? Thinking of making this buy and looking for some customer feedback. Pro's/Cons. Any install issues? Performance?
Thanks

Yep. I have one. Fit and finish are great, getting the bumper skin back on took a little shimming of the IC core, but they allow for that. The BOV is causing me to throw a CEL under light load, low rpm conditions. The kit comes with a set of springs and washers to adjust it to your needs (recirc vs. atmospheric, etc). I just haven't had the time to get it right. I have made it better though.

BTW, Oakos has 'em for sale with a rebate...you might want to take a look there for a good price.

Hope that helps

Just a thought...

Curious as to why you chose the TurboXS FMIC kit...right off the bat I can think of several other kits as well:

APS (different sizes)....525, 625, 725
WBR (reverse flow)
Injen (stealth)
Perrin
Greddy
Blitz
Ebay SSAC

I guess one thought is...what intake are you going to use?

If you want to use the Injen CAI or APS CAI that uses the first hole (from the firewall) to get cool air from your fender well area, then the TurboXS and a few others are out...the APS, WBR, and Injen work with those intakes...the other fmic's use a short ram or modified tube to get air from the second hole.

If you really like the TurboXS route...you really should look into the Ebay SSAC FMIC kit...it costs like $375 shipped and mimicks the TurboXS system very similarly...Tazer (Burt) has one and if you compare his to someone with the TurboXS...they are very similar...he's very happy with his...PM him if you have questions...So really, you could pay more than double for the TurboXS plus have it installed or pick up the Ebay SSAC+installation for less than the cost of just the TurboXS FMIC kit...

I just had the APS pipes/WBR intercooler installed using the APS CAI...Daniel my cousin has the whole WBR Kit using an Injen CAI...both by Ryan and the crew and Vakamon...we couldn't be happier...

Like I said above...we chose this configuration because we wanted to retain our CAI's...otherwise, we probably would have gone with the Ebay SSAC FMIC's....

the turboxs intercooler is very well made setup...the design of the intercooler is same as the aps, and i think perrin not sure, just not as big (bar n plate design=good durability). if you dont know what i mean, take a close look at the core of the turboxs and aps then compare it to the greddy, blitz, etc.

when installin the fmic be careful of the piping running through the fenderwell...lots of people dont realize that the pipe rests on the body, but where the pipe rests that part of the body can start to cut into the pipe which will equal boost leak...

i used turboxs for ease of install and over all good deisgn and durability. back in 2002 when ryan had his bugeye, he ran the XS cooler and he too wasnt disappointed.

bottoml line they all do the same thing, jus go with which one is easiest to install, intake issues, etc... good luck on the search

All - appreciate the informative feedback. Really helps. My biggest fear was and still is the installation piece. After researching several forums, I've realized that some of the FMIC kits require cutting and refitting of the front bumper. I really don't want to do to much refitting to the front. Looking for a really good bolt on and easy to install, but with optimum performance of course. Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks again

My advice is to...

take it to a pro to have it installed...my friends and I do a lot of installs...but this is one of several that we took to the pro's...

Ryan and the crew at Vakamon really know their stuff, they work on each car like their own...go over and talk to Ryan...he will be glad to answer questions for you...if you have a game plan, he may suggest certain configurations that may suit your needs the best...

Like Ryan said...the piping goes together like a puzzle...it's the cutting of the bumper that's the tough and time consuming part...one screw up...and you have one ugly front end...

Also, not to push you toward one way or another...but the WBR FMIC kit is really ideal...the pipes are reversed so the intake pipe is not directly over the turbo area like most...smart...

You can take a look at this nasioc post:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...light=wbr+fmic

it explains it well...I also like that you can use an inside the fender CAI rather than a short ram inside the engine bay...

One of my friends here in puerto Rico is running the Turbo XS FMIC. No problems plus his sti does 10.8@ 1/4 mile. Just a clue...

Good Luck!!

here's a question...whats your setup like? are you still using the sock turbo? if so and you don't plan to shange to turbo i would say go with a bigger topmount. if you really "need" a FMIC then it just depends on how much you want to spend and what kind of work you want done. most all FMIC will require moddification of some sort. put up a list of your current and future mods and we'll go from there

had mines for about 3 years and no probs yet. install takes about 2 hours with a partner. the only humbug part is cutting the black trim on the bumper to clear the end tanks. its straight forward and a breeze if you take your time. word of advice tie strap the cover for the new coolant res cause I lost the first one. have fun
