TurboXS FMIC VS. APS DR 725 FMIC

Okay, so what is everyone's recommendations? I've read several reviews, but I had to turn to who I trust most the HIIC. John, I know that you can help! I basically want an intercooler that will increase my HP right now and leaves plenty of room for upgrading my turbo later on. Both of these allow me to have fog lights if I want them, and they have bumber beam replacements so no cutting is required. This would be for my '04 STi.

the TXS FMI supports small to medium turbo upgrades where as the APS DR725 is made primarily for very large turbo upgrades.

I do NOT have the D/R 725... I have the DISCONTINUED D/R500 model

D/R725: http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/wr...dr725_fmic.htm

I don't know but the TXS FMI might be DISCONTINUED as well by TXS themselves but you could still probably get them from dealers that have stock. Reason why I think it might be discontinued would be because it isn't on their site anymore...

Jon, I knew that wasn't the same one that you had, but I figured since you were the only one I knew of that was using and APS you would have good advice, which you did. Hey isn't this the site for the turboXS: http://www.turboxs.com/turboxsfmi.htm ?

well you need to think realisticly at the aps 725 and the price for it as well. That intercooler can support up 725 hp before it becomes ineffiecient so look at your goals and then choose your fmic accordingly. I think the the txs one will be fine with most turbos, there are guys running the txs fmic and a t67 turbo which is really huge. But the aps has a really good air flow design so there are alot of factors to buying a fmic just choose one thats gonna be the best for your goals.

he has the older version of the APS FMIC, imo, i think you shouldn't get a fmic if you don't plan to get a bigger turbo, if your not going to be running too much power, then no sense having such a big intercooler.

it's debatable if getting a FMIC right now with your current setup if you will get a boost in performance.

You shouldn't upgrade your IC unless you plan on doing a turbo upgrade since the bigger FMIC might actually hurt your 1/4 times/power.

I have the new TXS FMIC and got it for the following reasons:

1) Price. It was about $500 less than the APS one
2) Keeps the fog lights
3) No bumper beam cutting

There are some downsides to the kit but for the $500 difference in price, I don't consider it a problem at all.

1) FMIC sits off center slightly. I spend an extra 30min elongating the hole so I could adjust it.
2) Kit comes w/ a TXS recirc/bov. I spent $60 for a HKS flange and getting it welded on. On the plus side I was able to sell the TXS valve for $100 so I came out ahead
3) Fit is tight and rubs in some areas.

Overall I am very pleased w/ the kit. However, if you're interested in buying mine (w/ the HKS BOV and short ram intake) PM me. I might sell it and buy Norman's Blitz FMIC if the price is right

I agree with Jon. Longer IC pipings = more lag, but I think the 2.5 low end torque would make up for the lag. Not sure...
