STI 6spd Transmission Diagrams..

hi, this may be a long shot, but does anyone know where i can find highly detailed diagrams if the sti 6mt??? ive been searching for two days.

i suspect that my input shaft bearing is making noise and i would like to replace it, but i cant find any "exploded views" or diagrams of the transmission..

thanks

i have a noisy transmission on idle... its not the throwout bearing, its new. its a rattling sound coming from the transmission on idle. when the rpms hits that sweet spot with the A/C on the rattle/noise is very noticeable. when using the shifter as a stethoscope, you can clearly hear where its coming from. when i press on the clutch you can hear the transmission spin down and noise go away. when i release the clutch i can hear the transmission spin back up and the noise come back.

i have a feeling that all the clutch chatter has been giving my transmission a hammering effect on my transmission, causing premature wear and tear. so far i have found that the main shaft bearings or input shaft bearings can cause these symptoms. now find it a safer practice to slip the clutch than let it chatter

i have no drivability problems, car is perfect, but i can get real picky with these damn noises.. makes me feel like im drivng a piece of crap... sounds almost like a freaking diesel engine from outside... the loudness intensifies when its a hotter day, or if i've done more driving.

its not completely necesarry, but im gonna go and rebuild my trans with new bearings and syncros while im in there... im also gonna use the stock flywheel to get rid of some of the clutch chatter.. not 100% sure i have the confidence to do it, but if i do, ill be sure to take some pics... the LAST thing i wanna do is take it to the dealer or some shop. with the time, pulling the trans is easy... taking apart a trans is something i havent done before, so its all reasearch for now... hopefully i can do it before school starts!

thanks
jimi

that sucks dude...

it could be the pilot bearing (the one that goes in the flywheel). If you take the bearing off the flywheel and then hold the bearing by the center collar and you shake it you shouldn't feel any movement. that small amount of movement could be what your hearing.

also, did you look at your driveshaft being the culprit? if you happened you didn't match up the alignment factory pen/paint markings the weights that are put on the driveshaft maybe in the wrong place.

have you upgraded your driveshaft mounts or other bushings for your drivetrain? if so then those WILL cause additional noises. If you have no driveability problems then you're listening for problems

well i plan on slapping the stock flywheel back on there, i pray its only something as simple as the pilot bearing, but that is also brand new..

yea i noticed those paint marks on the driveshaft, lined those up too..

sure, the sound can be lived with, but the fact that its there just pisses me off! lol

thanks for your input man

pilot bearings can be damaged by incorrect installation or bad from the factory.

Is your throwout bearing factory?
I know that Mitsu and Honda use a plastic sleeved throwout bearing, and I found out why when I changed to an Exedy that came with a bearing in a package deal. The metallic bearing ate away at the shaft and eventually rattled like a ****.
I'm not sure whether Subaru uses the same, but I suspect the inner race is not metallic on the factory part. I could be wrong though.

TOB is metal construction from the factory in fact I think I have one I can take a picture of

EDIT: cannot locate it at the moment I'll keep searching.

Ive never had my tranny off, but I've had similar issues with other cars. It was just a shot in the dark. I was just trying to think of things that are easy to replace.
