Speaker Recomendation

Ok I have two options the way I see it. I already have a stock head unit, which I want to use and keep. My options are get the upgraded OEM speaker set, and installing them myself with some help. My other option is to pay a store to install everything, I was told this would be cheaper, and would have better speakers. What do you think? Well can I get some recommendations, and if you think I should go with aftermarket speakers please recommend a place to get a good deal and have them installed.

Thanks,
Nathan

Go with aftermarket speakers.

But install them yourself. There are so many good speakers out there. Focal, MB Quart, etc. Depends on your taste. I use Eclipse and like them as they're very bright.

Okay well how hard is it to mount the speakers? Where should I buy them from? I don't want huge speakers. I want to be able to hear my music, and it sound good. I don't need to drown everyone else's crap out.

Get the Upgraded OEM speakers, tweeters and sub, you'll be very happy and the install is a snap.

If you get the above mentioned brands, you'll be able to play it loud AND it will be very clean. As for the difficulty of installation, it shouldn't be any harder than pulling off some cosmetic panels, pulling old speakers out & putting new ones in. Some speakers mount deeper than others, so a spacer may be required. All of this can be addressed by people that have done this type of stuff before. Spacers can be bought, or simply made from MDF. Real easy.
As for purchasing the speakers, I'm not sure what the good car audio shops are out here now. When I left, Mobile Car Audio was really good. I know they have all the good products, but I'm not sure about the prices. Keep away from Car Stereo Express, and if you want either of those places to install the gear, it will run you at least $85 for the speakers to be installed, if not up towards $150. If you would like some help installing, let me know!!!
Also, I'll be going back to Indiana on the 28th of this month. If you'd like, I can check prices for you there. I got an Eclipse head unit at a good shop there for around $200 less than it costs out here!

I have to disagree with Mach5WRX,

the stock speakers are typical paper cone junk. I cannot recommend them. I gave mine away, along with the head unit. Your choice.

The upgraded ones are polypropylene -(sp?), not paper and have huge magnets and say "Pioneer" on them. I think they sound really good.

Plus they are made to fit, with no wiring, cutting or spacers. 45min install for the speakers, tweeter & sub, that you can do it on your own and save $200.

My $.03

Sorry Dan,

I've only seen the "stock" paper ones, not the upgraded ones. Polypropylene is a good speaker material choice. Cant' comment on the upgraded stock speakers.

Not a problem, for around $400 he can have a super good sounding "OEM" system. Can't go wrong with that.

Plus it has to be good, I did it.

the wiring harness.

In my car (GM6/GC8) there is a connector under the seat for that exact thing. I don't know about GDA/GGB/Gwhatever
