How a car/vehicle/automobile came to be recently known as a "whip"? Also why does the word "whip" have to be prefaced with the word "yo"? I just dont get it...
Im guessing im just not cool enough figure this out...

I don't understand this either. It's not that we're not cool, we just don't speak ebonics. I'm guessing it has something to do with horses, ie. carriages, etc; like whip the horse. Idk.
Yes, it's indirectly derive from the horse n carriage thing. You "whip" the horse to move the carriage... and they some how just manage to use "whip" to describe your car. I know the math doesn't add up but hey... who's going to question a brother?
Yo is just a lazy way of saying "your."
Don't ask me why I know... I guess I listen to waaay too much rap.

'whip' has been around for a while, and i still have no idea where it came from.
the other one out there that throws me off is 'brain' - not a car term, originated in Philly. brain = dirty head games(to put it 'nicely')

When the steering wheel was first put into use in automobiles, it was called the "whip". The whip is what you used to control the horses on a stagecoach, hence the analogy. Many years later, various hip hop artists noticed that the Mercedes-Benz logo resembled a steering wheel. They then proceeded to use the old term "whip" to describe any Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The term has now been generalized to classify any expensive automobile.
