Richard,
I see you're on board, so the question's to you first. What did you think of Mitch and Wes' setup? And this is with neither having the supplemental gear, too, right?
Do you think Mitch is going to be able to lay claim?
How was Wes' spooling? I'd imagine that they didn't take either to top end much.
Anxiously awaiting,
Pat

Do you think that's the Unichip or the ECU learning? The same question has been posed on other websites about the UTEC, but no real answer.
Neither one of them has inj or pumps yet, do they? You know I just got back from the gulch where I did 3 WOT 1st - 3rd pulls. Only on my first one did the IDC go to 100%, and that was only 3 times. On the next 2, it would climb into the 90's but only later on in each gear.

Pat,
Wes' car is going to pull strong once the ECU is done creating it's spark tables.
The lag is considerably higher than stock, but nowhere near unstreetable or even bad...
We installed the VF30 and all of Wes' supporting mods yesterday in ~5 hours or so (pump, unichip, injectors, turbo).
Mitch's turbo spools WAY quicker - maybe even quicker than stock - but I have no idea how hard it's going to pull.
The streetability of the thing is amazing, the power potential has yet to be seen.
Time will tell.
It's the ECU and not the Unichip learning. The Unichip has no capability to "learn" anything - it's only a modifier (like a S-AFC).

What are your feelings about putting it back in to see if it was just a one time thing? Freakier things have been known to happen.

I'd rather the next turbo I put under the hood be a new/known good one.
I'm just bummed about this unit and IHI turbos in general. I'm underwhelmed so far. ROBPA on clubwrx.net just blew up his VF35 (albeit he was overboosting @ 19psi!)
I can't imagine why the turbo would start sealing now.
Thanks for the thought though!
I'm actually contemplating tearing the stupid thing apart myself - since it's just a $750 paperweight.

I know this sounds trite, but seriously I wish there was something I could do. I wish I had expertise in turbo repair.
nah, just wait to see what Alex is going to do for you. I guess you'll probably have to wait until after Christmas and all to find out anything though.
It sucks to have to wait again.
but at least you still have a wrx.
I'm feeling sorry for myself tonight.

yo,
wes let me drive his car tonight and although it had only 50 miles on the new turbo and stuff, it felt pretty smooth.
like richard said before, the boost comes on later but pulls harder on the top end. it's too early to tell how it will really run. it's gonna take some time for the ecu to learn.
i wanna thank wes for letting me drive his car. hope i didn't mess anything up but if i did, i got a new turbo in the box.
wes, put some miles on your car and do some roll-ons every now and then. when you feel the ecu has learned, do a reset and drive it like you stole it!
keep us updated!

Pat,
Thanks. You're a genuinely nice guy. I appreciate the sentiment. Dare I say, you're an officer and a gentleman? (sorry for the cheese factor back atcha!)
Sean,
You've got more seat time in a Stage 4 WRX than I (or WES!) do!
