shutter problems.....

alrighty so changed the clutch out along with pilot bearing, throw out bearing, clutch cover and shaved the flywheel. same thing before when i engage the clutch at low RPM's i get a mean shutter, and when the clutch if fully engaged the car runs smooth. now this was going on before when the old one was still in, started doing it righ when the studs from the clutch disc srated grinding on the flywheel. now im not sure if its just grabby since its all brand new, so please if you have $.02 please input, i dont wanna screw anything up, plus it would be nice to know what im dealing with before i take it to subaru for service.

thanks!

I'm

sure you're not going to like this, but welcome to owning a Subaru. I have an aftermarket clutch and lightweight flywheel and when I asked Cobb about the "shudder" (got the APS flywheel from them) they said it was inherent to Subies. You can get rid of it (to some degree) by dumping the clutch at semi-aggressive rpms, but if you're like me, you don't want to kill your clutch. Can't really help you on this.

Isn't the

shuttering due to the "grabbiness" of the race type of friction disk?

A while back, I started researching lightweight flywheels and race-type clutches.

The race-type clutches seemed, together with the lightweight flywheel, to grab more...not letting it slip a little like the stock flywheel and clutch...this is why they disuaded people from going this route for daily driving...the stop and go traffic would kill you and your passengers...

Not sure which products you bought but does it fit in the category mentioned above?

i think your all right on this one, this thing grabs like a *****, its the subaru SPT/STi clutch for my carfull face organic. imnot having problems with it in gear., holds strong, but when launching u can feel the shudder. i dunno im just a little afraid something bent or warped, even though everything went smooth.

good news i think, the shutter is going away, i think its just breaking in, one bad thing though, something i was afraid of....i remember when i first drove my car in the quarter and the small thud u could hear when shifting from 1st to second, i opened it up a little today and when i shifted around 4 1/2 it made what i thought to be a luder thud......now this isnt bad now, but i can almost garantee my gears wont hold that knd of power transfer for long, so now im loking at gears. all is well though, runs fine not counting the shutter. thanks
