Shipping a Car
Guys, i need your advice. Im going to be shiping my baby to Cali in the next week or so. Besides getting it waxed and sealed to protect against dirt and salt water. Is there anything else i should do? Load the 3500rpm AP valet map? Will Matson give me hell if i do that? Im really worried that some **** will have his way with my car. Anything i should do for extra protection for the interior leather? Do a full fluids change before i ship her? As you can see i am kinda concerned about this. I havent shipped a car thru them in 10 yrs. Last time was a POS that i wasnt even remotely worried about.
Didnt i hear that one of you work there? Care to give a fellow i-clubber some insight as to what they will be doing to my car?

yes you should load that 3500rpm ap(matson wont do anything), if drivers know what the car is capable of they'll be fiddling with it. Also take pictures of your car's interior and exterior-so when you get it back you'll know if there were any damages done to it. You don't really need to change fluids but if it gives you a peace of mind then do so.
I think thats about it

definetly pictures, i think you also have to bring it in with a 1/4 of tank of fuel, oh and when you load the valet map load the base not the real time.

take every care you can with the exterior, like the sealing procedures, ive heard some horror stories about things happenin...be careful. i was lucky, my car was untouched. the valet mode is a great idea. call them up, see what they say.

Matson is pretty good, the only thing my friend had his sti shipped from cali was minor scratches and it was inside a container... Make sure you get to cali b4 your car is received in Cali and the only way is to call them everyday and ask them about your car is it in yet, etc... should be there no more than 10 days...give them no time to think of driving your car...just my .02cents...Good Luck...

loaded in a container! I've had 3 cars shipped from Alaska and the best bet, even though it costs more, is to ship your car in a container...
When we shipped ours, they wanted an 1/8th tank of gas...and if it was more, they would charge us to siphon it out...
I would put the base map in valet mode, that way, if they are savvy enough to reset the battery, it would still revert back to valet...and take out anything that can be easily taken...I ended up taking my two amps out along with my subs...
no external damages luckily...make sure you go over your car with a fine tooth comb...especially the front end...they have steep ramps and often times thrash the front end...take pictures...
Good luck,
Brent

Ok, tons of pictures. Ill do that immediately after i get the car detailed, sealed and waxed. Im going to pay a profession to do it. Most likely will do a much better job than i could. There are no aftermarket parts in the car to take so no worried there.
I will be using the 3700rpm Valet Mode to ship the car.
The shipping company said less than an 1/4 of a tank of gas. Guess ill have to keep it below a 1/4 till i drop it off.
Bad thing is that it is being sent to LA then will be trucked to SD once it gets there. Ill have no way to get to LA to meet the vehicle. Any suggestions?

^^^Try Horizon Lines as well...they give prices for "in the container" shipping not just out on the deck.
Get your interior dressed and the leather conditioned/oiled/man splooged.

I had my car shipped from Seattle to Honolulu using Northland Shipping,...So they ship the the west coast side,..
It cost me $1175, but it also includes $75k in insurance (dont know how they figure that)),..but it would cover "everything",..even if the boat sank and you lost your car,..
Good thing too is that this includes your own container and there is a shipping schedual you can check on their website,..I think its like a out/in coming shipment every 2 weeks,..so at least you know when to expect your car,...
