Thumbs up

I've used Dependable Auto Shippers to ship my Land Rover between the bay area and LA. No problems whatsoever... but I'm sure there are other companies out there too. Their local pickup is in Hayward although I'm sure they have door-to-door service as well.

You have a few choices...

www.intercitylines.com
www.sundayautotransport.com
www.horselesscarriage.com
www.passporttransport.com

All of them are good, and most of the porsche and ferrari owners use them, intercity is ranked top of the list. All of the above offer door to door service, and east to west is pretty cheap now, $1200 or so for enclosed.

Make sure the transporter is licensed, bonded, and insured. Check with DOT Federal Motor Carriers Safety Admin if you are concerned. Most companies will fax you a copy of their cert. of insurance, read the cargo policy limit.

Best carriers will transport your car in a flat carrier, with only a single load/unload. Make sure their insurance policy covers loading and unloading, some policies only cover the loss if it occured IN transport.

Better be a hell of a deal. Remember CA is the car capital of the US, and the car's aren't rusted out from salt/sand/snow.

If it's in Vermont, it can probably be found cheaper here. Just a piece of advice.
