Security & Sound, Initial Temperatures

I haven't had my subwoofers in my car since I installed the Cusco V-brace (old box fit against the back of the back seat). I stopped by Security & Sound to have them build a box. I dealt with Ken, and he was very professional. He was also very busy, but I told him to take his time. He was very meticulus and is building a box that will sit behind the V-brace (in between brace and rear seat) with one subwoofer. It will face into the box (you'll see the magnet assembly if looking into the trunk from the rear of the car). It will be removable for track days/getting crazy days. I think the price was right and I've seen their work. One of the installers was checking out my guage setup and said it was real clean. I thought that was pretty high praise considering the work they do. The box should be done by the end of next week.
I did initial temperature checks today, thanks to Ryan at Vakamon walking me through the oil temp sensor install (Thanks Vakamon). Under "spirited" driving I noted the following; Peak EGT was 820 C, peak boost was 1.22 kPa X 100 (18 psi), peak oil temp was 102 C, peak water temp was 90 C, oil pressure peak was 8+ X 100 kPa, rev peak was 6775.
I was going to do the radiator/shroud/thermostat/hoses first, but the water temp is pretty consistent once it warms up. The oil temp fluctuates more, so I will hook up the aftermarket oil cooler first. I'll post my findings as soon as possible.

I

think my setup will still give me some useable trunk space. The 10" Eclipse actually ramps up quicker than the bigger Eclipse subs, but is less efficient, so it needs lots of power. Running at 1.55 ohms it should be well over 1450 watts. I really don't think I need all that. But I'll listen to it.

The

box should be done around the middle of the week. I'll be on leave Friday so Special-T can can "black" out my rear tails, spoiler brake light, and the front quarter-panel orange side lights. I hope I can live with one 10" sub. If not I'll look into using the spare tire space for the other one.

It's done. I'll try to get a pic. I seriously think I can live with one 10". I was suprised as I had two before. I'm running 3 ohms, so judging by how Rockford underrates their amps, I'm running 800+ watts easy. They did a good job. They even fabricated quick disconnect corner brackets to keep it from moving and provided banana plugs at no charge. I would highly recommend Security and Sound. I also ordered a 330mm Momo wheel (suede) and a quick disconnect for security purposes. It was a good day.

Ain't

no problem. I still have another Eclipse 10" sub, but I really don't think I need it. I'll be testing this setup with some old school bass tests (Dark Side of the Moon, pipe organ, etc) but so far (and it's only been a little while) I really like this setup. If I did utilize the second sub, it would be in the wheelwell with the same size enclosure, and it would also be removable. I could drop the ohms to 1.5. I'd also ensure the front of the sub was visible, so you'd have the contrast of front and rear.

It

wasn't just Kent, but everyone I dealt with was cool and professional. They're **** (in a good way) about doing it right. I've been known to be a bit **** myself (not how you perverts are thinking). I'm glad I went there and if I decide I want to use the second sub, I'll go back in a heartbeat.

i'd like to check it out a little later, most notably how they did the brackets.

I hope the single 10 is enough for you....with that much power it should be From a SQ standpoint you really should be better off at 3ohms rather than 1.5...less output but much better woofer control and sub volume increases should match mid/high level increases better.

And remember, while RF amps tend to be underrated...the older BDs power rating were based on 14.4v
